Prior to going to an interview, it's important to know what is expected of you. What kind of people will be interviewing you (HR, potential coworkers, managers, etc.)? How formal is the position? Will they ask techinical qestions or will it be behavioral based? Remember that an interview is for both you and the company. The company wants to make sure you would be a good employee, but you also want to make sure that the company is good for you.
It's always woth the extra effort to do some background research so you seemed prepared. It will give you confidence and cut down on nervousness. It will also give the potential employer the perception that you are interested in the job and really want it. The following tips are ways to get the most out of your interview.
- Show up early, at least 10-15 minutes. If you're earlier than that, wait in your car or outside.
- Dress appropriately. It's better to be a little overdressed than underdressed, but don't over do it.
- Research the company and the group that you are interviewing for.
- Learn to speak with confidence but humility. Be strong but not a jerk.
- Get excited about the job. It will show when you have to answer questions.
